Homeowners’ Monthly Checklist

Updated: Apr 4, 2018

When starting a remodeling project, we often come across items that require fixing before we can work on a home. Most of these damages could have been avoided if simple maintenance and quality checks were done by the homeowner on a regular basis. However, most homeowners do not know everything they should be looking for.

No worries, we've got you covered! Using this checklist on a regular basis will help you to see small damages before they become the “big-ticket” items

Roof

Even if there is no evidence of a leak (i.e. stained ceiling/drywall), it is a good idea to contact a roofing repair specialist yearly to inspect for any issues. They are trained to see issues that homeowners would not notice themselves until it is too late.

In your attic, check on the underside of your roof decking for evidence of discoloration or water damage

Gutters

Clean thoroughly of all debris with your hands ONLY. DO NOT use any tools or you will damage your gutters and will need to replace them. Clean them bi-annually (or quarterly, if you live in a heavily wooded area)

Siding

With a screwdriver, firmly stab wood siding to check for areas of rot or wood-destroying organisms. Wood siding will be mushy if there is damage

Check for gaps in caulking, simple caulk and paint will remedy this issue
